Dame Anne opened the new Educational Unit at Doonies Rare Breed Farm last weekend. The move came after Doonies Farm was awarded £36,000 from the Landfill Community Fund. A classroom and office will allow training to take place at the farm in Coast Road. Workshops on various subjects are being planned, including skills such as spinning and weaving.
The Education and Development Group was set up by a group of dedicated volunteers to provide educational visits for schools, special needs groups and youth organisations. The grant provided the building which will be used as a classroom for workshops on farming, animals, wildlife and traditional skills . They also provide work placements for college students and are now hoping to build on the educational facilities they can offer.
